On August 29, 2024, friends and family came to watch both the high school volleyball, cross country, and football teams run their yearly scrimmages followed by… Buff Bash! Although “Buff Bash” was not the original name, there has been some kind of a pep-rally after the scrimmages for some time.

After interviewing teachers Mr.Kufahl and Mr.Figge, it became known that the football players first called their event a “Soap Scrimmage” previous to the early 80’s. During the Soap Scrimmage, community members would pay in bars of soap to enter and watch the scrimmage. The reason for the soap was so Coach Ron Lee’s football boys would have soap to shower with after practices. Coach Ron Lee later changed the name to the “Pop Scrimmage” for people to pay with pop, Gatorade, and snacks to enter the stadium in the mid-to-late 80’s. Along with changing the scrimmage name, he created the pep-rally name known and loved today: “Buff Bash”. Not only did Coach Ron Lee change the titles for the events that take place on that night, but he was a huge factor in having the volleyball team scrimmage as well!

In the end, community support has always been present for this yearly tradition, whether it be through pep-rallies, a soap scrimmage, a pop scrimmage, or Buff Bash.
