The high school volleyball team had a successful day on Saturday at the Frankfort Invitational tournament, going 4-1 on the day and placing 2nd to a 5-0 Cair Paravel team, as they find themselves moving up the TVL rankings.
Onaga took down the host school Frankfort 25-19, 25-15 in the first round of the day, as junior libero Addison DeChant finished with a team-leading 13 digs in the match. That was the highest total of the day and her most this season thus far. They then turned around and played eventual champion Cair Paravel and after losing a tough first set 25-22, would drop the second one 25-10.
The team then had a break before rattling off three straight wins to end the day. They started off the afternoon with a win over Jackson Heights 25-23, 25-21. The hard-fought wins came with leaders in junior Lauryn Marten and senior Jaeden Abitz. Marten finished with the highest server rating on the team during the match, a 100% serve percentage, 7 digs, and a team-leading 3 aces in the win. Abitz would finish tied for the team lead with 10 digs and an ace of her own.
After their second win of the day, the Buffaloes dominated another Northeast Kansas League foe in Valley Falls, 25-17 and 25-13. Senior Annie Force had her best match of the day to that point as she finished with a team-leading 10 digs, and a 100% serve percentage that included an ace.
The final win for Onaga was one they had to work hard for, as fellow TVL member Washington County Girls took them to the wire in a 25-23 opening round set that saw the Buffaloes coming out on top, before an even more riveting incredible 30-28 match that sealed the win, and a second place finish for Onaga. Addison DeChant had another 13 digs in the match, while Jaeden Abitz finish with 8 of her own to go along with a season-high 5 aces.
The Buffaloes improved their record to 4-5 on the season with the successful weekend, but have little time to enjoy it as they have back-to-back triangulars on Monday and Tuesday. They'll head to Burlingame on Monday to take on the Bearcats and Bishop-Seabury in non-league matchups. Then on Tuesday they see some familiar faces when they head to Doniphan West to meet the Mustangs and Axtell.
