Last week at USD 322 was Homecoming week. The students had a lot of fun dressing up throughout the week participating in spirit week. This is one of the most exciting times of the year for high school students. There were many things that went on during the week with decorating, spirit week, the pep rally, burning of the dummy, mock king and queen games, the crowning, and the dance.

Since Valley Falls’ mascot is the Dragons, all of the classes incorporated that into their decorations. The Seniors came up with their window by using the homecoming candidates fighting the dragons. The Junior class used the opposing team’s mascot for their float inspiration for the pep rally.

The ongoing tradition of the burning of the dummy was held on Thursday. Prior to the burning of the dummy, the classes voted on the mock king and mock queens who played the games that night. Some of the games included finding ten gummy bears in a bowl of whipped cream and throwing cheese balls on the other candidate’s face full of shaving cream.

Friday afternoon the pep rally took place. The Senior homecoming candidates played games and the classes rode on the floats that they decorated. The cheer team gave prizes to the students who were the best dressed up for the spirit days throughout the week. They did the class chants and then rode back to the school to get prepared for the football game that evening.

The crowning occurred Friday night before the football game against Valley Falls. The queen candidates this year were: Annie Force, the daughter of Miranda and Brian Force; Delaney Figge, the daughter of Gayla and Darrin Figge; Atalie Conger, the daughter of Crystal Deckinger and Matt Conger; and Jaeden Abitz, the daughter of Nikki Chamley and Chad Abitz. The king candidates were: Jackson Kolterman, the son of Ben and Juley Kolterman; Dylan Magnett, the son of Mark and Amber Magnett; LJ Koelzer, the son of Jeff and Christi Koelzer; Wyatt Boggs, the son of Theresa Duffield. The King and Queen were Jackson Kolterman and Annie Force. The Buffaloes beat the Dragons 38-6.

After the game all of the students came back to the school for the dance. The generous Booster Club donated all of the food for the dance. All of the students had a great time at the dance and homecoming was a success!
